Within School VI – Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, the Department of Health Services Research, Assistance Systems and Medical Device Technology, and the Department of Human Medicine, Neurology, are seeking applications for two
PhD Positions (m/f/d)
(salary according to TV-L 13, 100%, limited to 36 months) starting as soon as possible.
The vision of the HEARAZ Research Training Group is the comprehensive inter- and transdisciplinary training of young scientists for the efficient development of a new generation of networked technical assistance systems close to the ear (“hearables”) and their integration into everyday life and care practice. Hearables will be developed into a mobile and personalized “health center at the ear”. Beyond the improvement of hearing, the goal is to realize assistance in the three areas of perception, communication and mobility for the wearer through technical and social networking with formal and informal care networks. The goal is to increase participation opportunities, taking into account health limitations, increased vulnerability, and increasing diversity among the often older clients.
All doctoral students are supervised by an interdisciplinary team of at least two highly qualified professors providing their complementary expertise, infrastructure, and networks. Doctoral students are encouraged to develop their skills and networks by visiting HEARAZ partners and world-renowned institutions for extended research stays.
Your Tasks:
- Active participation in the inter- and transdisciplinary training program
- Development of an own PhD topic within the thematic framework of the “health center at the ear”
- Technical development or evaluation of hearable-centered assistance systems
- Planning, conducting and evaluating a clinical study including patients with a neurodegenerative disease
We expect:
- Master’s degree in computer science, informatics, data science, engineering, physics, psychology or similar fields
- Substantial knowledge and proven interest in at least one of the following research areas
- Informatics/Data Science/AI
- Motion Capturing / Motion Analyses
- Engineering/Physics/Robotics
- Method skills in at least one of the areas
- Quantitative research, e.g. statistics, mathematical modelling, numerical modelling, etc.
- Programming, e.g. programming languages, tools, machine learning, AI, etc.
- Excellent proficiency of English or German
One PhD position must be filled by a researcher with at least a C1 language qualification in German due to patient communication.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experiences in academic writing
- Expertise in scientific studies
